2.4 - Radiator Configuration
Two cooling system configurations are found on vehicles today. Depending on the vehicle underhood configuration the radiator may be a crossflow or downflow configuration.
Crossflow
The crossflow configuration has the main core tubes and fins in a horizontal layout. Coolant enters one of the side tanks, cools the liquid through the core and exits via the other tank.
Downflow
The downflow configuration has the main core tubes and fins in a vertical layout. Coolant enters the upper tank, cools the liquid through the core and exits via the lower tank.
